The Psittacus BLE is constantly being updated and improved, most of which is hidden in the backend but makes a huge change to how the system runs. The Psittacus WordPress plugin and existing iframe are now over 4 years old and have not been updated for over two years.. That's alot of old tech!
The WordPress plugin is a huge part of what resellers need in order to generate sales directly from their website and as such our focus moving into 2019 was to update this core part of our systems and offer some new functionality that has been lacking for time.. The API is the current focus.
Starting from today (14/03/2019) we are releasing the new Shopping Cart Module and this is a direct replacement for both the WordPress plugin and existing iframe. 3 months from now the WordPress plugin and existing iframes will no longer function and will be disabled and a month from now we will also no longer offer support on the WordPress plugin or iframe. Don't panic, we're not going to disable everyone instantly, during the 3 months we'll offer guide and support to get you moved over as explained below.
Simply put, the API used for the WordPress plugin and iframe are too outdated with the current system. We are taking huge steps into upgrading our system and the API is an area we feel is better to be removed and started again than kept and added onto. We feel 3 months is plenty of time for everyone to migrate over to the new systems and once the 3 months is up the API is to be disabled.
The new Shopping Cart Module offers everything we currently provide in the systems but also give new amazing features such as Coupons, Payment Methods, Login/Register, No updates needed, Custom Categories and more! You can see the full list here:
Without going into un-needed fancy details about how the Shopping Cart Module works, simply put, instead of having to deal with everyone on the website, a simple script is placed on your website and the rest is handled by our systems. If however a developer would like to tweak how the system works, we offer guides on this as with everything else about the Shopping Cart Module. Styling the Shopping Cart Module is also done from within the BLE, just like you can currently change the portal design.
We get asked on a regular basis if features can be tweaked or added into the WordPress plugin and sadly we could never offer this due to limitations. The Shopping Cart Module has been build directly into the new Shopping Cart thats inside your Portals and as such things like Tracking, Logging and Easy Pricing can be done across the board compared to limits on the old WordPress plugin.
Depending on your current setup will depends on whats needed. If you simply installed the plugin and some styling, then all you need to do is the following:
Disable your current WordPress plugin in your wordpress admin area.
Install the new Shopping Cart Module following this guide:
Once installed you can configure the colours and style from your BLE.
If you've had custom development work carried out (custom categories, links to products directly or custom payment processing) we recommend getting your developer to contact us direct via it@ble.support. We will work with your developer to decide the best way to migrate over to our API. Developers can also click the following link for guides on custom features, links and styling:
We understand not everyone is a tech wizard. Therefore, if you would like things explained or help provided to transfer you from the WordPress plugin to our new Shopping Cart Module, then please get in touch with your Psittacus Account Manager.
